An already optimized image, a higher-quality setting, or conversion to PNG can increase file size. The result clearly shows this so you can lower quality, resize further, or try WebP.

Does the output keep EXIF metadata?

No. Canvas export creates a new image and normally removes camera metadata, including embedded location data.
